California People -- Big chance for food justice on Nov. Ballot

HEY! You Californians need to know about a *big* ballot referendum that volunteers are currently gathering signatures for the November election. The Committee for the Right to Know is pushing the California Right to Know Genetically Engineered Food Act, which would label GMO food as such.

This is important. Right now we are sending the message to consumers that GMO = norm, organic/non-GMO = specialty or luxury item. This is not ok, and it should have never reached this level of normality. Food is food, and food that is genetically modified has been changed from its natural state. Organic food shouldn't have to be labeled -- it's in its natural state still! Food items that have been altered should be the ones that are labeled, and this act will finally make it happen.

California has been a "testing ground" for new and progressive laws for some time now. Let's take the step forward to label GMO foods and hope the rest of the nation follow suit. The entire EU and China already label GMO foods, what are we waiting for?

To get involved, check out their website and find a handy dandy volunteer to sign the petition. I found some at Whole Foods. If you're not sure where to go, or if there is no designated group in your area, contact them!

Garden upkeep

This weekend we did some work in the garden to make sure everything was going well!

Chard was looking good and we finished up our potato barrel. I can't WAIT for fresh potatoes!

The only concern I have is that our chard is a little floppy. You can't tell as much from the first picture but it's more obvious here. Is that something I should be concerned about?
